   My Google finance portfolio market value is incorrect.?
   I use Google Finance portfolio to track my stocks. I logged into today and the total for the market value is half of what it's supposed to be. All of the stocks are still there and the value. If I add up the values of each holding/position own manually the amount is correct but the total isnt. Anyone have a problem with this before?

3. QUESTION:
   What is the best website or software to track portfolio performance?
   I move in and out of various equities somewhat often and I've found that google portfolios and Microsoft Money both do not track gains/losses made in my account from sold positions. I am looking for something that will show my gains after my position is cleared in addition reflecting those gains in my overall portfolio performance. Seems simple enough, but oddly ive had no luck.

   How do I go about getting a portfolio made of my 20 mo. old daughter.?
   I am not sure how much a portfolio costs or consists of exactly. Do you know if the modeling agency returns them? If they do not, then is it basically a few hundred dollars for the portfolio per agency you send one to? I do know to google portfolio photographers in my area.

   I want to be able to enter what stocks I bought, and for how much, and see a historical chart/line graph of my portfolio value according to market value of the stocks.

   @MarcThyme I do not see anywhere on Yahoo that does what I said. It can track individual stocks, but not a portfolio's value. Unless you have a link to the section you are talking about.

   Uhmm What exactly is a portfolio? I thought it was just a record of where you've invested but on finance.google.com they allow you to choose Shares, their price, buy/sell status, date, commission and Notes. If I decide to hit Buy in any company it will only be a record of what ive bought and what price and not actually a real buy right...

   So can someone please clarify what a portfolio is.

7. QUESTION:
   When selecting the transactions tab in my Yahoo portfolio, no positions appear for editing or deleting?
   I created a Yahoo portfolio of my 15 stocks a while back and now need to modify some of the details about those stock positions. When I click the transaction tab in my Yahoo portfolio most of the time none of my positions are showing. I was not able to find a way to give the Financial page staff feedback on this problem, nor get technical help about what may be causing it. If it continues I'll have to switch my portfolio to Google or some other service.

     I use yahoo to monitor different companies and its free so I would imagine Google would be too.

   i have to look at a real teacher's electronic portfolio for my education class. i have to print the 1st page of the site to prove that i looked at it and didn't make it up and then i have to click on the links such as the person's teaching philosophy and just kinda say that out of all the portfolios i looked at i like this one best because....blah blah blah...i will not contact you or your employers in any way this is just for school.

10. QUESTION:
    Why is there no time data attached to quotes on Google or Yahoo Finance?
    When I access my portfolio data on Google Finance or Yahoo Finance, there is no date or time attached to the data for my stocks (I see a "Last price" column, but it doesn't say from when). Additionally, there is a "Change" column, but it doesn't say over what period. Any ideas why? Thank you.

      Because it is not a real time report, but up to a 20 min. delay. So at 1:20 PM you are looking at the price for 1:00 PM. Times are better and it may only be a 5 min delay, but since Yahoo Finance is not connected into the exchanges, they can only get reports such as the news report.

      tip...dont be one of those crazy moms like the ones you see on beauty pageant shows..you can really ask someone whose only 20 months if they are interested in modeling...trust me i lived with one of those moms and i wouldnt want the baby to suffer like i did..but anyways...make some calls for modeling agencies usually in magazine adds and websites :]

      They are great for what they are well exposed well framed well focused but they do not really tell us anything about the people, who they are or what they are thinking. Learn to talk to people to relax them and make them comfortable and relaxed with you and your camera.

      start looking at photos find ones you really like and deconstruct them

      Ask what do I like about this photo what do I dislike then head out and really start taking photos till you shutter finger bleeds !!!

    how do i hide my resume from being searched by google?
    I have a portfolio website and have my resume on the same server with no link to it. However, when i search my name on google my resume is ranked hire than my portfolio page, even though its not linked anywhere....? what can i do to hide my resume from google?

      Oh dear, don't just delete it from your server!

      You have three basic options:

      1- Upload a robots.txt file to your server. This tells spiders (like google and yahoo) what to index and what not to index. (most thorough)
      2- Put a "Robots" META tag at the top of your resume. (Easy but effective)
      3- Put "rel='nofollow'" in any link that points to your resume. (Easiest - Not as effective)

      These three options can be done by following the steps on this website:

      Once you do it, you will want to rename your resume. This is because it has already been indexed. Where the old resume was, make a new file (using your old file name) that redirects to your portfolio so that if they do click on it from a search engine, they end up where you want them to go.

      It means that you need to put up your portfolio on a website. The link they speak of is, simply, the URL, or address to the site.

      You cannot, simply, provide a link that will give the employer access to your personal computer, unless it is set up as a server. That simply means that the website is hosted on your own system.

    Google can now read Flash websites - should I build my portfolio page in Flash? What do you think, and why?

      If your portfolio is of your flash design skills then i'd probably say yes, but otherwise i wouldn't use it just for the sake of it, it would depend if your portfolio would benefit from animations,etc, like if its art then a slideshow done in flash might be good. But if theres no real use for it then don't bother.

      if the credit crunch is biting then try Craigslist.org and get a fotog to do it for their portfolio. - they give you a CD you can make prints from for your portfolio and they have the same.

    A competitor (much smaller than my firm) keeps a number one position on search engines. They clearly have someone who knows what they are doing. When I check so called SEO experts none can provide success stories or a portfolio of happy clients - they just want money and to host the site. Any advice?

      Getting your website to be #1 on Google will depend on which keyword you want to target.

      So first, find out which search keywords you want(the ones that will get you the most relevant, high conversion traffic) and then just start doing SEO for your site. This website will help you find good keywords.       Just go to http://www.google.com/webmasters and it will tell you what you need to do to get high placement ranking for you keywords. It is very time consuming though and don´t expect to get any results before 3 months for good keywords.

      If an SEO service tells you they can do it in less time, they are full of it and if they can do it, its probably for really bad keywords that no one ever searches for.

      Try http://www.blindmonkeymedia.com they are a fairly new company but the people that started the website have a good reputation and will actually give you a list of references complete with results. Since they are new they will probably do it at a fair price.

    Why doesn't the NAV/Price in my portfolio match the true stock price?
    I recently opted in to my new employers 401K plan. All of the other stocks and funds in my account, except one, have the same NAV/price and "price per share" if I were to compare the two from my portfolio and, lets say, google finance. The one that doesn't match is the stock of my employer that I have in my portfolio. If I go on google finance and search, it's priced at .93/share. However, in my portfolio it's priced at .81. Why is that?

      Are you sure the shares of company "stock" in your account are really shares of stock? Or are they shares of a mutual fund made up of company stock?

      For 401(k) accounts, many companies create a mutual fund that contains ONLY company stock and earnings, and the value of each fund share will differ (higher or lower) from the actual market price of the shares. Therefore, you own shares of the FUND. You do not own shares of the stocks within the fund. Your Human Resources Department should be able to explain this.

    I bought a stock thrice, 1000 shares @ .00, 1000 shares @0.75 and 1000 shares @ 0.688. I then sold 1000 shares @ 0.72. What is the cost basis now?

    On my Google Finance portfolio it shows Cost Basis = 38. How did it come to this figure?

      Your cost basis is the amount you paid for the stock. That means:

      Your cost basis for the first 1,000 shares you bought was ,000
      Your cost basis for the second 1,000 shares you bought was 0
      Your cost basis for the third 1,000 shares you bought was 8

      After you sold the 1,000 shares that you purchased for ,000 you had 2,000 shares left with a cost basis of 0 + 8 = ,438.

    Can i use pictures from google in my photography coursework?
    i dont mean say i took them myself, i have to reasearch experimental techniques and i am reasearching hannah hoch and editing images using diffewrent techniques in photoshop as reasearch for my final exam and i wanted to do a woman as a machine with like cogs/gears and stuff but i dont have anything to photograph like that so if i took them off google and wrote in my portfolio that it was sourced from the internet would that be ok?       You did not mention how far a long in photography you are. Is this one of your first classes or have you been at this for a few years?

      The reason I ask is because the project you have picked is very advanced and is usually not attempted until the person (artist) has a vast background in photo manipulation and the resources necessary to carry out the project. Before you get too far down this path, talk to your instructor and see what they think might help you complete your project with the least amount of stress

      If you have a look a the darkroom photo manipulation by Jerry Uelsmann, you will not only notice the precision of his work, but that he did not just wake up one morning and start making his specialty prints. He laterally spent years learning his craft and as his skills became better, his images became more complex.

      My feeling is to complete your project as stated, you would have to spend a lot of time in recycle yards, photographing "cogs/machinery" using different lighting situations (shade, partial shade and full sun) of each piece, so when you assemble your "mechanical woman", you will have all the parts and the lighting on those parts will match the assembled cogs. Or you can shoot them all in the shade and later using Photoshop's tools to induce an artificial lighting effect.

    Why does Google think my website is about gardening when I'm a book designer?
    I am a book designer and I just posted my portfolio online for the first time. Google had no problem finding it, but besides my name, every single keyword to find my site is gardening related. Neither my website nor my sitemap.xml file have anything to do with gardening! I haven't yet plugged in meta tags and this might correct the problem, but it seems very specific and I was wondering if anyone knew the cause of it.       The mysteries of Google PageRank.

      No one's entirely sure how it works out some of the stuff. But here are some things that might help:

      1) Try and get related sites to link to you: most of PageRank is done by who links to you. If lots of book-design sites link to you then it will work it out. Do you know if any gardening sites link to you?

      2) Add a description meta-tag: Google uses this to rank you site.

      3) Google looks for keywords on your page. So make sure you've got lots of words about book-design on the front page (although this seems to be the case already).

      4) The keywords meta-tags won't make much difference to your ranking, but might help with gardening thing.

      The first one will be the most important one in getting your site recognised properly.

      You just have to play with grids in your design. Try to use leatherette for your trims and cubic designs. They come in lots of colors. Some are glossy and some have a matte and leather look to it. You can even add thin foam underneath to make your graphics look 3D.

      Keep 1,2,3,4,9,14,16,25,26,27,28,29,30,32,33,34,35,38,39... at the most!

      Better to have a few killer shots than lots of filler.

      Your macro shots are good. Some of the shots where you've dragged the shutter are good, but there are quite a few which aren't good enough for what you're trying to do. You clearly like abstract photography... but you have too many shots with the main subject soft, or a tilted horizon. Basic stuff that you need to work on. Keep at it. There's enough good stuff in there to make a decent portfolio. Put your best stuff at the front, and like I said... better 6 - 10 great shots than 25 average to good shots with a few great in there.

      I know this will read as very direct but I hope you accept it in the spirit in which it's intended!

    MAKING A MODEL PORTFOLIO. HELP?
    I just have a few questions about making my model portfolio. I've looked up these questions but google just keeps sending me the wrong way. So I was wondering if anyone with experience in modeling industry can please any of these questions.

    First, I already know some of the pictures (headshots, profile, and full length) that are suppose to be in a portfolio of this kind, but I would like to know; Which ones can be in black and white? Can they have some effects (B&W photoshop stuff) done? Are they suppose to be plain color? Can the photographer have his/her logo on my picture thats going to be in my portfolio? blah blah blah! ect...

    Any advice or tips on this modeling stuff given would be also appreciated!

    My Portfolio on Yahoo Mobile?
    The new yahoo mobile interface does not display 'My Portfolio", search around and still cannot find it. I must have tried at least 20 logins and 50 different navigation around the stupid new mobile interface. Anyone of you have similar issue and found solutions? Thanks for your help.

    Considering to move everything over to Google.......yahoo mail has not been stable for quite awhile already and now the new mobile interface is hopeless....

      I already had my portfolio set up on Yahoo Finance through my base PC. I recently installed the Yahoo finance app directly from my iPhone 3Gs and entered my yahoo user name and password and was able to see my portfolio. The only problem is that the mobile app does not give the totals for the portfolio.

      First of all, the picture isn't big enough....it will probably tile if you use it as a background.

      If you still want to use it, save it to your computer & upload it to tinypic.com & copy the "direct link"...then look in your layout code for this...

      This is a common mistake that most people make. I still try to figure this out… why do people buy when the market is high and sell when the market is low? It’s like going to a supermarket and asking them to charge you more for milk that’s on sale.

      Here’s some advice…

      Invest most of your money in mutual funds. The reason… because they’re managed by people that know what they’re doing. It’s ok to play individual stocks too, just don’t sink all you money into them. You can also get away from commission fees by setting up an auto-investment plan with the online service that you’re using. Doing some analysis won’t help you pick good companies, knowing the management will, however you and I don’t have that luxury. So… what do we do? Well, let’s start with the tangibles. What products do they sell? If that product would disappear could we live with out it or would it seriously hurt the way we live (i.e. toilet paper)? How popular is this/these products and how easy is it to enter this particular market. What competitors do they have? What are they doing different? Let’s take a look at the financials, how much debt is this company carrying? **** that’s the most important question. Good companies become great by carrying little debt. Look up book value ratio. This measures a company's stock price compared to it's book price.

      EX.

      If a company XYZ’s stock price is selling at a share and the book value (liquidating the company) is , then just by buying this stock you’ve already made a profit. Hope this helps.

      Also… hold your investments.

      Investments are supposed to be held for long periods of time. When I say long periods, I mean 10, 15, 20, 30 years. The key is that companies will make money, that’s what they’re in business for. Inflation, for a short-term, could affect this, however most companies will pass this off to consumers or find ways to cut back on costs. Do you see my logic…AS LONG AS COMPANIES ARE IN BUSINESS TO MAKE MONEY, you have nothing to worry about.

      I wouldn't call it formal, it looks like something you could only really wear for dance or figure skating; you know, like a showgirl dress. If it's just for photo shoot I don't see why you couldn't wear it, but if they told you formal wear, I'd go with something a bit more classy and simple. After all, you're showing off yourself, not a fussy dress.
